Rescuers intervening after Monday’s evening shock in the Mine Knurow in Silesia on Tuesday afternoon were located approximately 200 meters from a 40-year-old minerwith which the incident failed to make contact. According to the Jastrzebská coal society (JSW), they are currently focusing on restoring the air supply to the affected part of the mine. This is reported by Warsaw TASR rapporteur, according to PAP.
- Restoring the air supply to the mine is one of the main priorities.
- Damage to the mine does not require the removal of the collapsed rock.
- The risk of methane leakage increases the difficulty of the rescue operation.
A strong shock occurred at 21.26 HV depth of 850 meters during the corridor mining in the mine part which is part of the mine Knropy-Szczyglowice belonging to the JSW. At the time of the incident, there were nine miners in the area. Eight of them came out with their own, one remained in the endangered section.
According to Vice -Chairman JSW Adam Rozmus, more than ten mining rescue teams from several JSW and Central mining rescue station operations participated in the rescue operation. According to the findings to date, the shocks have not caused the corridor, so there is no need to remove the collapsed rock, which would extend the procedure to the stuck mine.
The key task is now the repair of the damaged device providing air supply to the workplace. According to Rozmus, the restoration may take several hours before it will be possible to continue the procedure for a precisely localized miner. At the same time, rescuers must take into account the risk of methane leakage, which is released in larger quantities.
The miners who came from the endangered section were treated and then taken to hospitals. According to preliminary information, only minor injuries, such as abrasions, bruises and back pain, suffered. The affected part of the mine was removed from operation, the rest of the mine continues to mining.
