Special Advisor to the Presidency says that government Trump wants to destabilize Brazil and states that there is difficulty in contacting “who decides things” in the United States
The special advisor of the Presidency of the Republic, Celso Amorim, said on Monday (11.ago.2025) that the increase in tariffs applied by the United States to Brazilian products is a mixture of political and economic interests that challenge current diplomacy. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s main counselor (PT) said that the high summit of the Brazilian government has found it difficult to contact “Who decides things in the United States.”

Amorim stated that US President Donald Trump (Republican Party) mixed politics and economy in the letter he sent Lula in early July when he announced the increase in tariffs. The advisor, however, said that it is not possible to know how much of this US decision is the influence of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) or what he said is a right of Americans to strengthen the far right in Latin America. Amorim said it is natural for the dollar to lose space in the international market over the use of local coins. The expansion of the use of other currencies in international transactions is one of the main flags of BRICS, a group initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. And it was one of the reasons for raising US tariffs to Brazilian products.
“It is something that will happen, it is good to happen. But it will happen regardless of the will of the rulers. The acceptance of the dollar as a reserve currency for all is linked to the multilateral system. This was not born for nothing, everything is connected.
