The Portuguese army has already mobilized nearly three thousand military personnel to fight fires in the country, currently having 34 daily patrols committed to the surveillance and detection of fireworks, a source of that branch of the Armed Forces, said Tuesday.
In a note sent to the newsrooms, the army highlights the presence, at this moment, of three engineering detachments in the regions of Trancoso and Tabuaço, to Create containment ranges, improve hits and support direct combatand aftermath teams in Vila Real and Ribeira de Pena to eliminate “living combustion” and isolate “slow combustion material”.
The army also has surveillance and detection teams “distributed throughout the national territory, monitoring risks and acting preventively to safeguard lives and goods.”

On July 18, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGFA) announced that six thousand military personnel will be involved in operations this year surveillance, rural fires and awareness of populations.
