Do you have a hole in the herb flower bed that you would still like to fill? And you don’t want to spend on new seedlings at the same time? Grow them yourself. Just take the scissors in your hand and you can bet in a few weeks! “At the end of summer and early September, the ideal time is,” says Jana Bucharová in a podcast.
You will not only play the counseling center about the multiplication of herbs:
Seedlings are more expensive year after year, including herbs. Moreover, you can never be sure that you can buy just the rosemary that is doing well or the same lavender or mint. The solution is very simple. The complete horticultural beginner can cut herbs.
Where to cut?
You really don’t have to take a centimeter. Much more important are quality and sharp gardening scissors. “Choose semi -woody shoots that are still partially soft, but at the ends, about seven to ten centimeters, they will harden,” advises Jana Bucharová, expert of the magazine Recipe for garden themes. “Working with them is the easiest and best holds up.” Then cut the pieces of just about ten to twelve centimeters long, but they will catch the seven -centimeter.
Let them grow
Some experts recommend that the cuttings be rooted for a week or ten days in the water. “It is possible and most of the herbs really take root,” confirms Jana Bucharová. “But it is much easier to stick twigs straight into a light and nutritious substrate.” Choose the best one that is directly intended for propagation. Then you can be sure that the roots will grow nicely.
Moisture and shade
Two other things will benefit strong cuttings. Do not spill the substrate, but try to keep it slightly damp. “Then do not build with cuttings in direct sunlight, it will not benefit them,” adds the expert. It is better to keep him in the shade and leave future seedlings to get pretty slowly. If you do it by the end of the holidays, you can put them back in the flower bed in October.
