The honeymoon is, for many couples, one of the most awaited and more careful moments. However, for a British couple who chose the Greek island of Rhodes to celebrate the occasion, the experience quickly turned into a nightmare: they found the “so dirty” resort and constant works, being incredulous with the conditions, according to the Daily Mail.
Travel to a five -star resort
The couple chose a five-star hotel on this island to celebrate the honeymoon. The intention was to enjoy quiet days in a paradise destination.
Upon arrival, the resort seemed to correspond to the promised. “When we arrived, everything seemed beautiful, by the sea, a large space,” they remembered, cited by the same source. However, on the first day, the scenario changed completely.
The leisure space has become an active area of works. “After breakfast, there was a constant noise. We went to see and were doing work with the pool known as relaxation,” they reported, showing their displeasure.
Presence of noise and machinery
The rest area was occupied by trucks and heavy machinery circulating between sun loungers. “They passed cement vehicles and we had to change the loungers to let them pass,” they said, cited by the above source.
The couple added that there were people in the pool while glass panels were installed on the upper balconies, which increased the discomfort and raised doubts about safety.
The intensity of the noise led them to look for other spaces, but not even in the bar they could relax. “We wanted to relax, but not even the music was heard,” they lamented.
Nonexistent support from the agency
Annoyed, they tried to talk to the agency representative on site. “They said they didn’t know when I came back. I gave my number, but I never had an answer,” said her husband.
The situation remained the same until the end of the honeymoon, without any solution presented by the resort. “It was a construction shipyard from start to finish,” they described.
Below Conditions Expected
According to the same source, the reserved fourth was swim-out type, with direct access to the pool. However, when opening the curtains, the disappointment was immediate. “The sun loungers were dirty and brown. We didn’t use them,” they said. The change of room was requested, but the order was refused. The state of the outer area led to unusable throughout the stay.
The general environment was described as “ridiculous, madness.” The conditions prevented until the collection of photographs of the moon. “We didn’t even take a photograph. It was all so dirty,” added her husband.
Nonexistent entertainment and compensation
They expected some kind of night animation, but found no activity. “We went to see if there was music or karaoke, but nothing was happening,” they said.
On the return, they filed a complaint to the agency, as referred to in the newspaper. The trip cost 1,080 pounds, about 1,250 euros, and initially a reimbursement of 281 pounds, about 325 euros was proposed. After a new complaint, the compensation rose to 380 pounds, about 440 euros, value accepted by the couple.
Also know that the island of Rhodes is known not only for its beaches and history, but also because it is one of the Greek islands with more hours of sun per year, about 300 days. This characteristic, which attracts millions of tourists, makes the tourist season longer, but also that some works and maintenance works take off outside the low season, surprising those looking for absolute rest.
