Accident was at the bun factory in the city of Clairton, Pennsylvania, and left 10 injured
A sequence of explosions was registered on Monday (11.ago.2025) at a US Steel factory, a traditional US steel company and a symbol of the country’s heavy industry.
The incident took place in Clairton, located in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area, Pennsylvania, and caused at least 1 death confirmed by local authorities. In addition, there is a record of 1 missing person, whose search follows in progress.
The explosions hit Clairton Coke Works, an industrial installation that is part of an extensive complex on the banks of the Monongahela River. The site specializes in the production of coke, fuel derived from the coal used in the manufacture of steel. The episode took place shortly before 11am, at the east coast of the US (12 noon in Brasilia), and caused a large column of smoke visible miles away.
The moment of the explosion was captured by Breathe Project, a group that fights to improve air quality in the region and has a camera that shows the factory live.
