On Monday (11) the journey of João Fonseca ended at Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Brazilian was defeated in the third round of the tournament by Frenchman Térence Atmane by 2 sets to 0, with partials from 3/6 and 4/6.
After eliminating Chinese Bu Yuchaoket and Spanish Alejandro Fokina, Fonseca made many mistakes against Frenchman (136th in the ATP ranking) and had no time to recover in the match.
The Frenchman will now challenge American Taylor Fritz, number 4 in the world, who beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego 7/6 (7-4) and 7/5.
Current 52nd, Fonseca now only returns to the courts in the US Open dispute. It is already classified for the main key to the Grand Slam, which runs from August 24 to September 7th.
With the result against French, the Brazilian repeats the best campaign of Masters 1000 in his career, made in March in Miami. But at the time, he had won his games against Learner Tien and Ugo Humbert before falling before Alex de Minaur.
Fonseca accumulates seven wins and seven losses in career masters 1000 tournaments. In the current season, he won 17 ATP circuit games and lost 13, and won two Challenger titles in Camberra and Phoenix.
