Alerts against large heat were issued on Tuesday by the authorities in France. Temperatures can stand out above 40 degrees Celsiusinforms TASR, according to the DPA report.
- France has issued high heat alerts.
- Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius.
- The red warning applies to 14 country departments.
- Special measures include open parks and museums.
- Drought and fires increase the risk in the southwest of France.
French Meteorological Service Météo France called on people in a large part of the country to proceed with extreme caution on Tuesday. A red warning was issued for fourteen administrative departments, which is also the highest level of warning. The orange warning applies to 64 others.
Hospitals were warned to receive patients weakened due to extreme heat, said Minister of Health Catherine Vautrin. Current weather conditions also lead to elevated ozone levels and impaired air quality in cities.
Some French regions have taken individual measures to alleviate the consequences of heat. For example, the city of Lyon left its park open overnight so that people could sleep outside. Several air -conditioned museums opened their premises for free to provide the public with relief from heat.
In Bordeaux, they opened a center that provides a refuge for the homeless from bad weather. In public areas, for example in the Paris subway, warnings have been posted that encourage people to drink enough fluids and protect themselves from high temperatures.
Due to high temperatures and drought in some areas of France, the risk of fires continues to be extremely high. In particular, the southwest of the country that suffers from an unusually strong drought is concerned. Last weekend, firefighters have managed to largely manage the largest forest fire in France over the last decades.
