In recent days, a phenomenon has drew attention on the Internet: the Sea of Galilee in Israel had a blood-red color. The images spread quickly on social networks, raising religious theories and speculation about possible biblical signs.

The episode was widely compared to a biblical passage from the book of Exodus, which narrates Egypt’s first plague, when the Nile River turned into blood, killing fish and making water improper for consumption.
Israeli experts and environmental authorities explained that the phenomenon is caused by the proliferation of the Botryococcus Braunii microalgae. Under intense sunlight, this seaweed releases a natural pigment that can leave the water with reddish color.
