Government assembles task force and will lead to “robust” defense to US investigation

O Itamaraty set up a task force in articulation with members of a series of organs of the Esplanade of Ministries and prepares a “robust” defense to respond to the investigation open by USTR (United States Commercial Representative Office) against Brazil.

According to USTR, which announced the investigation on July 15, about the investigation and will hold a public hearing in Washington, US capital, on September 3.

“Since the announcement of the investigation, Itamaraty, in coordination with all areas of the competent government on the subjects dealt with, has been striving to prepare a robust written manifestation,” said the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

“For this, a task force composed of servers with extensive experience in the topics involved who, in articulation with the competent bodies of the Esplanade, have been elaborated on the comments of the Brazilian government, currently in advanced preparation stage,” he adds.

According to Itamaraty’s position, the Brazilian government also formally filed a request for consultations, which are provided for in the investigation regulation, but the date has not yet been set.

Response on Combating Corruption

In an event last weekend, the Minister of CGU (Comptroller General of the Union), Vinicius de Carvalho, said that about an alleged weakening of the fight against corruption in Brazil.

Also according to the minister, there was a record in saving public resources through the use of an artificial intelligence tool that reads bidding documents and identifies possible deviations. Last year, about R $ 1.25 billion were spared, he said.
