Approximately 700 Turkish firefighters with the help of seven aircraft and six helicopters on Monday fought with forest fires in the northwest province of Canakkale. The fire is spreading rapidly for strong winds and hundreds of locals have already evacuated the authorities. On the social network X, the local governor Ömer Toraman reported this, TASR writes according to Reuters report.
For spreading thick smokes for several hours, local airport, part of the highway and Dardanel Strait closed. In the evening, however, they opened them again. Approximately 50 people inhaling smoke were treated in nearby medical facilities. According to the Governor, their condition was not life -threatening.
The authorities also started preventive evacuation of some sites, including the University Center, Military and Residential areas. They called on the residents to limit travel and release roads for emergency services.
In total, four forest fires are currently recorded in Turkey, two of them in the province of Canakkale. The fire in the same region broke out last week. Firefighters managed to get under control on Friday.
Forest fires in the country broke out last month, which, according to meteorologists, was the hottest July in the past 55 years. Up to 14 people died.
