The pressure on his government is going inside, not to move on to the new operation to occupy it, as after last weekend’s major demonstrations, the opposition, along with hostage relatives, call on mobilizations and strikes on Sunday.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called on citizens to take a strike in solidarity with the Israeli hostages in Gaza next Sunday, drawing up the call first of the hostage families.
“Strike on Sunday,” Lapid wrote in X, clarifying that he was “still on those who support the government” by Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It’s not a matter of controversy or policy. Make it from solidarity ‘to the hostages of October 7 that remain in the hands of Hamas and her ally, Islamic Jihad, in the Gaza Strip and to their own people.
“It was the families who asked for it … and that is enough reason,” he added.
Country’s basic trade union will not participate
On August 10, around 20 hostage relatives called on a general strike next Sunday, and yesterday, Monday, the hostage families forum, the basic organization representing hostage relatives, called on a statement to ‘paralyze’ that day. They failed to immediately persuade the basic Israeli trade union, Histadrout. This union decided not to “paralyze the economy at this stage”, but to support “workers’ solidarity demonstrations” that day, according to the forum.
