At least 13 people were killed and more than 60 were injured in two buses in the south, as authorities said today.
The most dead accident occurred in the Pununo region, where a bus turned off its march and fell into a cliff. Ten people were killed and another 38 were injured, according to a temporary report by the Health Authorities in Sandia province, about 1,500 kilometers southeast of the capital Lima.
In a similar bus car accident, this time in the Kusko District, at least three people were killed and about 30 injured, according to reports by the local Police Department.
Authorities’ investigations are under way to determine the causes of the two accidents.
Traffic accidents are often in Peru and most of them are attributed to the development of excessive speed, the poor state of sections of the road network, the lack of marking, and the impunity of the road traffic code. According to Peruvian Police data, 3,173 human lives were lost in 2024 on the streets of the country.
