Project against adultization: We have support from the opposition and government, says Senator

Bill 2628/2022, which aims to establish mechanisms to combat sexual exploitation content of children and adolescents in a digital environment, has received broad support from both opposition and government. The proposal seeks to create a regulatory framework to protect children’s audiences in the virtual environment.

In an interview with CNNSenator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), author of PL 2628/2022, points out that the project was developed after extensive consultation with various sectors of society, including specialists, companies and civil society organizations. “No one is interfering with individual freedom or freedom of expression, but the tools that are used by criminals have to be regulated,” he says.

Regulation and Protection

According to the project, companies already have the technical, human and financial resources necessary to implement protection filters. The proposal aims to direct these resources to the protection of the vulnerable public, especially children and adolescents.

The text under discussion is the result of years of work and did not arise in response to recent media events. The project is expected to become a kind of digital child and adolescent statusestablishing solid bases for future discussions on regulation in the virtual environment.

The initiative follows a global tendency of legislation focused on the protection of children and adolescents in the digital environment. International experience demonstrates greater ease in achieving consensus when it comes to the protection of this specific vulnerable group.
