Son of the President of the (Supreme Federal Court), Bernardo Van Brussel Barroso gave up returning to after the government announced.
Van Brussel is director of Miami, USA. He was on vacation in Europe when Trump management announced the cancellation of visas and, by his father’s guidance, decided to return to Brazil.
The case was revealed by UOL and confirmed by Sheet. The decision to cancel the return to the United States was taken as a precaution, as the Supreme Ministers have not yet been officially communicated from the suspension of their visas.
The fear was that Bernardo was barred at the entrance. Minister Barroso advised his son to avoid the imbroglio, and he agreed.
Barroso and his family have close relations with the US. The minister is an academic collaborator at Harvard Kennedy School. He made visits to other American universities during his management in the presidency of the Supreme.
His daughter Luna Van Brussel Barroso graduated at Yale University from 2022 to 2023-in which she returned to Brazil to do a doctorate in Constitutional Law at the University of São Paulo.
Bernardo took a course at Cambridge Square Capital in Boston for three months in 2018 and returned to the country years later to make his master’s degree in Data Science at McDaniel College.
He has worked as an associate director of BTG Pactual since August 2024. He spent time in New York and then settled in Miami.
The Trump government’s offensive against Brazil has been motivated by the STF’s advancement against former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and allies reported for participation in the 2022 coup plot.
The US government announced on July 18 a. Only Luiz Fux, André Mendonça and Kássio Nunes Marques were free from sanctions. The last two were nominated by Bolsonaro to the Supreme Court.
Donald Trump’s management also applied to. The sanction is trying to isolate the US financial system minister of the US financial system, with the ban on doing dollar operations or even using credit card flags such as Mastercard and Visa.
There is a fear among Supreme Ministers that financial sanctions are expanded to other court members and their families.
