A total of 24 Western countries, including Slovakia on Tuesday, called on the famine to stop famine in the Gaza Strip. They also emphasized the need for ceasefire, the end of the war and the release of the hostages. According to the AFP report and the European Commission website, TASR reports this.
“Humanitarian suffering in Gaza has reached an unimaginable level. There is a famine in front of our eyes,” says Kaja Kallasová, head of the European Union’s foreign policy, also signed.
The need for immediate action
“It is necessary to act immediately to stop and reverse the famine. The humanitarian space must be protected and the aid should never be politicized,” the world leaders said.
The announcement was signed by a total of 17 EU countries – Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden – along with Australia, Canada, Island, Japan, Japan.
Calling to facilitate assistance
“We call on the Israeli government to allow all aid supplies … It is necessary to take immediate, permanent and concrete measures to facilitate safe and extensive access for the UN, international NGOs and humanitarian partners,” the statement said.
“All border crossings and routes must be used to allow supplies to Gaza, including foods, dietary supplements, shelters, fuel, clean water, medicines and medical equipment. Distribution sites must not be used deadly force and civilians, humanitarian and healthcare professionals.”
AFP emphasizes that the statement was not signed by Germany, despite the fact that last week the export of military equipment stopped to Israel in response to his planned takeover control of Gaza. Germany has been a solid supporter of Israel for a long time.
