Typhun Podil is approaching Taiwan, evacuated nearly 2000 people

The Ministry of Defense is ready to deploy approximately 31,000 soldiers to help in preparatory and rescue work.

Almost 2000 people evacuated Tuesday in Taiwan, which is approaching typhoon Podul. Meteorologists assume that on Wednesday it will hit the sparsely populated southeast coast and then move over the mainland over the Taiwanese Strait, TASR reports based on the AFP report.

According to the Central Meteorological Office (CWA), the average wind speed in the center of the typhoon could reach 133 km/h, up to 166 km/h in gusts.

The Ministry of Defense said that approximately 31,000 soldiers were ready to help with the arrival of typhoon and subsequent rescue work.

Removing warnings

The most affected areas will be the districts of Chua-Liena and Taij-Tung in the east of Taiwan, as well as the Jia-I district, the southern regions and the remote archipelago of Jin-Menn.

CWA assumes that another meteorologist said that 400-600 millimeters of rainfall could fall from Tuesday to Thursday in the Kao-Siung and Pching-Tung districts. More than 350 mm of precipitation could fall in other areas.

The consequences of the previous typhoon

The middle and southern Taiwan is still recovering from the consequences of the Danas typhoon, which hit the island in early July and claimed two victims and hundreds of injured.

From 28 July to 4 August, tidal rains followed, with more than 2,100 millimeters of rainfall in some areas. Five victims required bad weather, three people are missing.
