Federal Deputy Diego Colonel (PSD-BA) is responsible for analyzing the representation of the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), against 14 parliamentarians who obstructed work at the house for two days in protest to home arrest of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Initially, the expectation was that the parliamentarian would issue his opinion within 48 hours, as pointed out by Motta, but he said he had a period of 45 days, indicated in the representation he received.

Son of Senator Ângelo Colonel (PSD-BA), who is acting, Diego defines himself as a businessman and is in his first term as a federal deputy. He was elected with 100,274 votes in 2022 and represents the state of Bahia. The politician is affiliated to the Social Democratic Party (PSD), a acronym led by Gilberto Kassab, and was a state deputy for the same subtitle in 2018.

Before joining the Chamber, Diego was mayor of Heart of Maria (BA), a municipality with 26,000 inhabitants, between 2008 and 2012. At the time, he was affiliated to the former Republic Party, which later changed its name and became the Liberal Party (PL), which has Jair Bolsonaro as affiliated.

The Parliamentary Corregedoria – a position that Diego has occupied since April 2025 – has a duty to maintain “decorum, order and discipline in the house”, comply with the determinations of the Board of Directors on the security of the House and to “analyze disciplinary proceedings initiated by representation requirements against federal deputies related to parliamentary decorum breach”, defines the official page of the position.

Therefore, the deputy must issue an opinion informing what type sanction should be applied against parliamentarians represented by the obstruction of the house. Possible punishments range from verbal or written censorship to the precautionary suspension of the mandate. On the other hand, he can also file the process if he understands that there was no violation of parliamentary decorum.

In addition to a parliamentary corregedor, Diego is also chairman of the commission that analyzes PEC 009/23, on the minimum quota of parties resources, and was vice president of the Tourism Commission by March this year.
