China’s president, Xi Jinping, expressed on Tuesday (12) support to Brazil in defense of his sovereignty and economic interests in the face of increasing commercial tensions with the United States. In a telephone conversation requested by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), XI argued that Global Southern countries act in a coordinated manner against unilateralism and protectionism.
According to the Chinese government, the leader stressed that “China supports the Brazilian people in safeguarding their rights and legitimate interests” and is willing to work with Brazil to “establish an example of unity and self -sufficiency” among the main emerging economies.
The dialogue, according to Beijing, also dealt with business opportunities, alignment of BRICS development and strengthening strategies as a platform to broaden the political and economic weight of the global southern.

Xi stated that sino-Brazilian relations cross “the best moment in history” and cited advances in the integration of projects of the belt and route initiative with the new PAC.
Also according to the Chinese official press, Lula presented his assessment of the current scenario of relations with Washington and reiterated the Brazilian position of defending, “firmly and unshakable,” the sovereignty itself. The Chinese leader also highlighted the joint commitment to COP30 in Belém, and the role of the “Friends of Peace” group in search of a diplomatic solution for the war in Ukraine.
The statements occur in the midst of Brazilian products, which, according to the Lula government, represents an attempt to use political issues to justify economic barriers.
