The Minister of (STF), denied the request for filing part of the investigation on the so -called “parallel abin”. The request had been made by the defense of Luiz Fernando Corrêa, current director general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin). The decision of Moraes accepted a demonstration of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which positioned itself against the filing of the inquiry in relation to Corrêa. The minister justified that the investigation is still under the analysis of the PGR and, therefore, a request for filing at this time would be “absolutely premature”.

One involves the espionage of Paraguayan authorities and organs during the negotiations on the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant, an action that would have had the endorsement of Luiz Fernando Corrêa. In addition, the investigation points to a possible ABIN summit attempt to obstruct the Federal Police’s own findings on the case. This suspicion led the agency’s servers to request the dismissal of Corrêa, which, however, remains in office.
Corrêa’s defense argued against the investigation, but Moraes stressed that it is not up to the investigated to guide the investigative activity. With the minister’s negative, the inquiry remains in progress in the PGR, which will define the next steps of the case.
