Almost nobody collects these mushrooms. And they are edible and very tasty

Sarcodon Imbricatus also known as a roof deer is a dining mushroomthat you can now come across while walking in the woods. The season lasts from August to November, but few daredevils decide to put it in the basket, although it is really tasty.

Mushroom pickers are often not aware that it is allowed to collect it, because until 2014 it was protected. Now it is still on a red list with the status of exposure to extinction, but there is no legal prohibition, so maybe it is worth getting interested in it. It will be a nice change for well -worn boletus and buttermilk.

The spruce deer in the forest smells beautiful and is edible, but only after thermal treatment: cooking or stew (it can be very harmful). Only his young specimens should also be eaten, because these are delicate and juicy. With age, they lose their properties, become ugly and tasteless.

Apparently, breaded chops in the egg and rolls of hats of young spruce deer are also sensational. Some also make soups and sauces from the fungal pulp, and even use it for stew.

If you are not sure if the mushroom you have just found is edible, never collect it, because it can end tragically. As for the features of a spruce deer that facilitate its diagnosis, they are:

  • flat-peeling, bent, spreading hat (with a diameter up to 25-30 cm)
  • scales on a hat that are arranged in collots like tiles (hence the popual determination of tile deer
  • The hat may be color: gray -brown/ red -brown and even black brown
  • The hat has no tubes or plates from below, and the appendages resembling spikes up to even 1 cm long (in young specimens light, they darken over time)
  • Short, hard, massive handle up to 3 cm thick
  • firm flesh with a pleasant, spicy smell
  • brownish spirin spill

Where are spruce/ tile deer? This species feels best in a coniferous forest, in spruce forests on a sterile ground with a slightly acidic reactionhence in Poland, you can count on the largest collections in the south of the country. It often grows with whole clusters, but not always.

When mushrooming, be careful not to mistake the edible mushroom with poisoners. In the case of spruce deerand its consumption can even lead to death.

The poisonous thicket tiger smells … flour, has a baking tray, a lighter shaft with a slightly greenish shadewhite spores, less fleshy hat with more adjacent scales. If you have any doubts, give up collecting mushrooms.
