AOL ends dial -up internet service after more than 30 years

(America Online) has announced that it will end the dial -up internet service from September 30, 2025. The mode connects the computer to a telephone line and is currently only available in the United States and Canada.

“AOL periodically evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue the dial -up internet”declared the company in.

In the social network X, the co -founder of AOL, who led the company’s growth in the 1990s: “Thanks for the memories. Rest in peace”.

Launched over 30 years ago, AOL’s dial -up connection was known for its acute boot sound. With the advancement of technology, internet providers began to offer faster connections such as ADSL and later fiber optic.

According to, less than 300,000 people in the US reported having only dial-up connection to the Internet in their homes compared to more than 300 million broadband consumers, according to US government estimates in 2023.

AOL, which merged with Time Warner in 2000, sported more than 30 million subscribers in late 2001.

Time Warner dismissed AOL in 2009. The company was acquired by Verizon in 2015, which saw value in its mobile technology business and later merged AOL with Yahoo.
