On Tuesday (12), a judge from the United States ordered President Donald Trump’s government to restore part of the recently suspended federal funding to the University of California in Los Angeles.
The US District Judge Rita Lin of San Francisco decided that financing suspensions violate an injunction issued in June, in which she ordered the National Science Foundation to restore dozens of bags she had canceled at the University of California.
This order prevented the agency from canceling other scholarships in the University of California system, of which UCLA is part.
The White House and the university did not immediately commented on the decision.
UCLA reported last week that the government froze $ 584 million in funds. Trump threatened to cut federal funds to universities due to pro-Palestinian student protests against Israel’s military attack, Washington’s ally, Gaza.
The Los Angeles Times newspaper reported that the order of the judge was asking for the restoration of more than a third of suspended financing of $ 584 million.
The University of California reported last week that it was analyzing an offer for the Trump government to UCLA, in which the university would pay $ 1 billion.
The institution stated that such a high payment would “devastate” the institution.
The government claims that universities, including UCLA, allowed anti -Semitism during protests.
