President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday (12) that, during COP30 (Climate Conference), in Belém (PA), in November, Brazil will propose the creation of a fare for rich countries to pay fare to contain climate change.
“We really want to have environmental justice. And COP in Brazil will be transformed into the Truth COP,” he said in an interview with Band News journalist Reinaldo Azevedo.

Lula said rich countries have a debt of over $ 1.3 trillion a year because of climate change. Even he stressed that he wants to hear from heads of state about what they think about scientists’ alerts.

“If they think there is a problem of global warming or not. Our responsibility is not to allow a warm -up. In fact, it is already underway.”

Environmental Education

In the interview, the president assured that he intends to put environmental education in the school curriculum.

“I think a child learning how he does selective garbage collection can educate his father and mother,” he said.

Lula exemplified about phenomena such as snow in Saudi Arabia, and desert rains. “It’s a crazy business that is happening on the planet. I think it has to do with human irresponsibility.”

Mineral exploration

Lula also said that he will create advice to discuss the mineral exploitation of Brazil with subordination to the Presidency of the Republic. “If Brazil has to agree with the country to explore any of the ores we have here, it will have to be produced here in Brazil.”

He criticized the model of exploration of iron ore with the sale of the product and then purchase of industrialized material. “We have learned a lesson. We are only aware of 30% of our territory. We will make a 100% survey and we will use it as a way to make this country take a quality leap.”

“If the US president wants to argue, this is discussed at a negotiating table, this is not discussed with tax.”

Ignorance

The president considered that foreign powers are unaware that there are 30 million inhabitants who live in the Amazon.

Lula defended, in the interview, government decisions on environmental issues, which allowed the reduction of deforestation by 50% in the Amazon.

“I made the commitment that we will be able to reach Zero deforestation by 2030,” he said in an interview.

He said he must be proud to be the country with the largest tropical forest on the planet. “We want to take care of her. Taking care of our forest, our water, our Pantanal, our Caatinga, our Cerrado.”

Lula explained that the defense of the environment ensures quality of life for the working people. “Under each tree pantry, there is a fisherman, a rubber tapper, an extractive, a rural worker, an indigenous. These people need to survive.”
