In a speech at Planalto Palace, President Lula says that ‘no one is disrespecting human rights’ in Brazil

In a speech at the Planalto Palace, this Wednesday (13), President Luiz Inacio da Silva (PT) stated that “no one is disrespecting human rights” in. The speech happens a day after publishing a report, in which he stated that the situation of human rights in Brazil worsened. “No one is disrespecting human rights rules as they are trying to present to the world. Our American friends every time they decide to fight with someone they try to create a demon image against the people they want to fight,” he said. Lula also added that “now, wanting to talk about human rights in Brazil… You have to look at what happens in the country that is accusing Brazil”.

The document, in which Lula referred to, criticizes the president and also the minister of (STF). In addition, it also criticizes the arrest of former president’s supporters, defendant in the STF for attempted coup. The “Human Rights Practice Report in 2024”, composed of 196 UN member ratings, was handed over to the US Congress.

During a statement, Lula stated that Brazil has an “autonomous judiciary”, which is ensuring the constitution. “The executive branch or the National Congress, we have no incidence regarding the judgment that is happening in the Supreme Court,” he said.
