The president (PT) countered on Wednesday (13) the report of those who criticized the treatment of human rights in Brazil.
“Now, when talking about human rights in Brazil, we have to look at the country that is accusing Brazil. And, with great peace we will try to do, in our reach, to minimize the problem that was caused.”
The government -produced document listed human rights practices in Brazil, an annual analysis by the US State Department over all UN member countries. It has been held since the 1970s and is a world reference in the analysis of the theme.
Titled “2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Brazil” Report of Human Rights Practices by Country), the document criticizes the performance of the Minister of the Supreme Court (STF), and says that the situation of human rights “deteriorated” in 2024.
The agency also stated that the Lula government repressed “the democratic debate” and restricted the expression of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), while the cuts made decisions that undermine freedom of expression.
Lula’s statements were made during an event at the Planalto Palace of for the companies affected by the United States -imposed tariffs, in which the president and ministers of government reinforced the negotiation discourse and the criticism of what they call unjustifiable measures by Donald Trump’s management.

At the event, Lula signed the MP (Provisional Measure) that created a credit line of $ 30 billion to support the sectors. On the eve of the announcement, the petista had already anticipated that he would sign the measure and prioritize small businesses, as well as exporters such as tilapia and honey.
By officializing the tariff via decree, Trump. Of these, 565 are related to the aircraft segment and 76 to, coal, natural gas and its derivatives. Among the food, they escaped only Brazil nuts and pulp and orange juice.

The meetings with the sectors were made directly by the vice president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, who also maintained institutional contact with the US through the Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnik.
Minister Fernando Haddad (farm) was also in conversations with the United States at the institutional sphere, discussing the measures with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The contingency plan provides, among various measures, credit release for companies and increased government purchases.
