According to investigations, the flames devastated more than 480 hectares, an area of over 450 soccer fields, causing estimated environmental losses of R $ 35 million. Expert reports point out that the area, the target of constant deforestation, was being prepared to create livestock -oriented pastures, without any license of the competent bodies.

The PF identified that the fire was intentionally caused, causing severe impacts on native vegetation. “Given the magnitude of damage and recurrence, the Federal Court determined the kidnapping of movable and immovable property, as well as the blockade of bank accounts of the investigated, to ensure resources for the restoration of the degraded area and the repair of environmental damage,” said the PF in a statement.

The operation reinforces the fight against environmental crimes in the Amazon, in a critical period of increasing burning and pressures on the forest.
