Owner of six Olympic medals, gymnast Rebeca Andrade, 26, announced on Tuesday (12) that will no longer compete in soil events. During participation in Rio Innovation Week at Pier Mauá, Rio de Janeiro, the athlete said her decision was motivated by pain and the need to preserve her health after five knee surgeries.

“The soil is the device that most impact. I am a 26-year-old athlete, with a history of five knee surgeries. When we understand our limits, it is very important to respect them,” said the gymnast. “I know you love when I do solo, but I can still show a lot on other devices.”

At the Paris-2024 Olympic Games, Rebeca won four medals, including gold in the end of the ground. With her performance in the French capital, she became the largest Olympic medalist in Brazil’s history, with six medals, surpassing Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael, both candle.

In addition to the podiums in Paris, she won a silver in the general individual and a gold in the jump at the Tokyo-2020 games, held in 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

His medical history, on the other hand, has three right knee surgeries after breaking the LCA (anterior cruciate ligament) in 2015 when he was a teenager. In 2017, she underwent a new surgical procedure still due to the injury. In 2019, on the eve of Pan de Lima, Peru, she had a problem on site again and needed a new surgery.
