The Canarian president, Fernando Clavijo, and the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will meet next Monday on the island of Lanzarote, with the tension between both administrations to the maximum for the transfers of the migrants from the islands to the Peninsula. This has been announced by Clavijo this Wednesday in an interview in TVE, in which he has detailed that the meeting will occur from 16.30, taking advantage of the summer of the president of the government on the island. In the heart of the appointment are the stumbling blocks that are facing, that the Supreme Court ordered the Government to host almost five months ago, but those who have barely left the first 10.

Clavijo has also responded to the Minister of Migrations, Elma Saiz, who accused him of “disloyalty” and missing the truth in his criticisms of the transfers of minors. “If what the Government of Spain is looking for – and the minister – is submission and complicity to violate the rights of minors, will not find it in the Government of the Canary Islands or in me,” he said.

The announcement of the Canarian President occurs a day after the clash between the two administrations because the second transfer of minors that was scheduled for the end of this week – in which 15 teenagers would go – will no longer occur. From the Canary Islands they have denounced that it is improvisation by the Government of Spain, although Minister Saiz qualifies as “a success.” This, despite the fact that the order of the Supreme Court to take care of the minors is from March and at that time it gave 10 days to fulfill it.

For that delay, Clavijo has insisted on his criticism this Wednesday. “The will of the Government of Spain is not being decisive” when creating the necessary places in its reception system for these minors, the Canarian President has claimed. “We are discouraged, because if the Supreme Court is not paid, we do not know what will happen,” he lamented.

The other way to transfer migrants who are overcrowded in the Canary Islands to the Peninsula, which promoted the government and is not yet underway. Although at first the government had projected to initiate that distribution in summer, in this case it has been delayed by the belligerence that the communities governed by the PP against that rule have assumed: 11 of them have resorted to the Constitutional Court-although also the socialist Emiliano García-Page, of Castilla-La Mancha, has done so-and some, as Aragon, put resistance to send the information required by the ministry of childhood.

The Government has transferred to the Canary Islands, according to Clavijo, that on August 28 the decree that sets the ordinary reception capacity that each autonomous community would have will be approved. The figure is key because it finally allows the reception system throughout the country and, therefore, to make an equitable distribution of minors who have so far remained in saturated facilities in the Canary Islands.
