The WSL Finals, an event that will decide the world’s surf champions in Fiji, will have two athletes from Brazil, both in the men’s dispute. They will be Yago Dora and Italo Ferreira, who were in the top five in the sum of the 11 WSL qualifying steps (World Surfing League).
Ranking leader Yago is closest to the title. With the results of the 11th stage-which is being finalized on Wednesday (13), in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, French Polynesia-, the 29-year-old Paranaense can no longer be reached and will compete in the trophy of the season using the yellow mesh, reserved for first place.
In the finish dispute system, the fifth place faces the room to decide who faces the third. From this duel comes the opponent of the second. And only in this confrontation is the rival of the first. The leader still has another advantage: just win the first battery. In case of his defeat, he becomes a better dispute of three.
Italo’s position will still be defined throughout this Wednesday. The 31 -year -old Potiguar – world champion in 2019 and a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 – is in the quarterfinals in Teahupo’o. Depending on its result, it will reach the finals as second, third, fourth or fifth of the ranking.
In women’s competition, everything is already defined. They are qualified for the order in Fiji, in order, the Australian Molly Picklum, Hawaiian Gabriela Bryan, American Caitlin Simmers, American Caroline Marks and Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson. The decision will take place at the window from August 27 to September 4.
