A large fire is threatening the historical village of Piódão, in the municipality of Arganil, leading to the evacuation of Foz d’Agua and Chãs D’Ogua, two locations in the same parish. Images shared on social networks show the shale village practically surrounded by the flames, in a scenario that generated great concern.
Around 10 am this morning, the fight against flames mobilized 356 firefighters, supported by 103 land vehicles and five air assets. Most of the inhabitants remained in the central square, but the GNR advised seniors and people with reduced mobility to travel to the church area.
Given the severity of the situation, the Arganil City Council activated the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan, providing for possible aggravation in the following hours.
