When the orchid breaks, cut him in exactly in this place. He will sprinkle with buds

Pruning orchids is a procedure that raises many doubts. Some say that it is best to leave shoots alone, others – that they need to be removed immediately. The truth lies in the middle.

Orchids of the genus Phalaenopsis or Paphiopedilum, popular in Polish homes, require not only regular watering and fertilizationbut also skilful trimming of shoots. This treatment:

  • stimulates the development of new buds and side shoots,
  • allows the plant to focus on healthy parts,
  • It reduces the risk of fungal and bacterial diseases.

Studies on the morphogenesis of orchids show that plants subjected to proper cutting are blooming more often and faster.

The trimming method depends on the condition of the shoot:

  • Dried rush – Remove it low, about 1 cm above the leaf. Dead tissue no longer fulfills its function and can be a habitat of pathogens.
  • Partially dried rush – Cut out only a withered part, leaving a green fragment from which new branches may grow.
  • Green rush without flowers – This is where the most important trick lies. Cut the rush about 1 cm above the third eye from below. It is from this place that new inflorescences grow most often.

Cutting made at the right time and in the right place will stimulate the plant to release new inflorescences.

The optimal moment for cutting falls after flowering, usually From early autumn to the end of November. At this time, the orchid retirement and the procedure will not disturb its natural cycle. Note: some varieties, such as Paphiopedilum or selected hybrids, it is better to leave until the momentum dries itself, because their growth can be more sensitive to premature cutting.

After cutting the shoots, it is worth supporting the plant regenerating fertilizer with potassium and phosphorus, but without the addition of nitrogen. Also provide her with adequate conditions: dispersed light, room temperature and Air humidity at 50-70 percent Thanks to this, the orchid can bloom again within a few weeks. A properly made cutting of orchid is a simple way to enjoy its flowers much more often. Just follow a few rules, and the plant will repay with a cascade of new, healthy buds.
