The house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF), is approved by most Brazilians.
According to a survey Datafolha released on Thursday (14), 51% agree with the decision, while 42% claim to be opposed. Another 4% could not give their opinion and 3% were indifferent.
The survey also points out that 53% of respondents evaluate that Moraes acted within the law by imposing the measure, after the magistrate understood that Bolsonaro violated imposed restrictions, including the prohibition of manifesting through the social networks of third parties.

The survey, conducted on Monday (11) and Tuesday (12) with 2,002 people in 113 municipalities, shows that the episode had high visibility: 87% of voters say they have learned of house arrest.
Of this total, 30% consider themselves well informed, 42% more or less informed and 15% with few data on the case. The global margin of error is two percentage points.
Regional and generational differences
Despite the positive evaluation, there are variations between specific groups. Young people from 16 to 24 years old approve the measurement (60%), but the margin of error in the segment is six percentage points.

In the south, considered Bolsonaro’s electoral stronghold, there is inversion: 51% say the prison was unfair and 43% support it, within a margin of five points.
Bolsonaro is under house arrest while awaiting trial in the criminal action that investigates the attempted coup d’état to stay in power after the defeat to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2022.
