The plenary of the Federal Supreme Court formalized the choice of Minister Edson Fachin to take over the presidency of the Court from September, when the management of Minister Luis Roberto Barroso ends. Minister Alexandre de Moraes will be the vice president of the STF. The election is a formality as the choice of presidency is made among the eleven ministers of the Supreme as a function of antiquity and in the scheme of relay between them.
Fachin’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for September 29. “I consider it to be lucky, at this conjuncture, to have a person with Fachin’s moral and intellectual quality,” Barroso said by announcing the outcome of the election, which was made virtually before Wednesday’s plenary session (13).
Fachin greeted Barroso for the “work, zeal and sensitivity” of his management, which began in 2025. “We will continue to seek to strengthen collegence, plurality, always open to dialogue,” said the minister. The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, said the Supreme “will remain in great hands.”
