Earlier this week the President of the Republic asked the government and the Minister of Health to fulfill the promise they made to the Portuguese. A promise that both the order of doctors and FNAM says it is impossible to fulfill.
The birth of a baby on a charged street earlier this week led the President of the Republic to pronounce again on the health crisis. On vacation in the Algarve, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa recalled the promise made a year ago by Ana Paula Martins.
“It was promised by Lady Minister of Health that she would do what was within her power to solve problems related to obstetrics and gynecology, namely in terms of emergency services. Let’s see if until the end of summer,” said the Portuguese head of state.
“No one believes. Obviously, the problems of the National Health, Gynecology and Obstetrics Service in this specific case, but from all other areas of health taking into account the current state and the degradation that has existed in recent years it can be resolved in two or three weeks. ”says Carlos Cortes, president of the Order of Doctors
“It is more than evident that this will not be resolved until the end of summer: and here those responsible are Luís Montenegro and Ana Paula Martins that the truth was missing to the population and the country when a year ago they said that this summer the situation was going to be better. The situation is not better,” said Joana Bordalo and Sá, president of the National Federation of Doctors
The Bastonnais of the Order of Doctors points to the lack of organization in the National Health Service. The recent case of a pregnant woman who had her daughter on the street leads professionals to ask for the investigation of responsibilities
Carlos Cortes reaffirms that there are enough doctors in Portugal that are not in the NHS. It says that incentives are necessary for health professionals to want to work in the public.
