Mozart Sales said the sanction is “unfair” and that the program “defends life and represents the essence of SUS”
The Secretary of Specialized Health Care of the Ministry of Health, said on Wednesday (13.ago.2025) that it is “unfair “ and defended the Mais Médicos program.
“This unfair sanction does not take my certainty that more doctors is a program that defends life and represents the essence of the SUS [Sistema Único de Saúde]the largest public health system in the world – universal, integral and free ”declared the secretary made on his Instagram profile.
The US State Department announced the sanction on Wednesday (13.ago). According to the department, the employees of the More Doctors program “They were responsible or involved in the complicity of the coercive scheme of export of labor of the Cuban regime, which explores Cuban medical workers through forced labor ”. In addition to Mozart Sales, former Ministry of Health’s International Relations Advisor, former Outdoor Relations Director of PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) and current General Coordinator of (Organization of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty) for A, is also cited in the document.
“As part of the More Doctors in Brazil program, these authorities used PAHO as an intermediary with the Cuban dictatorship to implement the program without following Brazilian constitutional requirements, dribbling Cuba’s sanctions and, consciously, paying the Cuban regime which was due to Cuban health professionals”says the text.
Sales stated that Cuban doctors already provided care to other countries through international cooperation measures: “Thanks to this initiative, the presence of Brazilian, Cuban professionals and other nationalities offered primary health care and fraternal hands to those who needed the most. Decreased countless pain, suffering and deaths ”.
