The European Union and allies appeal to Sudan. They call for an urgent approach to humanitarian aid to civilians hit by struggles and cholera epidemics.
On Thursday, the European Union, together with other states, called on all parties involved in the civil war in Sudan to quickly enable humanitarian aid, especially to the city of al-Fasir and its surroundings in the Darfur region. The situation in the country is also worse by the cholera epidemic, TASR reports.
“Civilians must be protected and the humanitarian approach must be allowed,” the EU said in a joint statement, which was also signed by non -non -countries such as Britain, Canada and Japan. Slovakia also joined the call.
Fighting in Darfúre
For more than two years, the fighting between the army and the paramilitary forces of rapid support (RSF) have continued in the Darfur region. In Sudan, the cholera epidemic is also raging, which claimed at least 40 lives there last week.
“Given that the fighting in the northern part of Dárfur in Sudan continues unchanged, hundreds of thousands of civilians have stuck in the city of al-fascus and its surroundings that ares the RSF. All trade routes and supply routes have been interrupted and humanitarian organizations have not been able to help in the opinion of the countries for more than a year.
Rising food prices
The kitchens there, which have so far provided food for civilians across the country, had to close because of the lack of food. At the same time, the prices of basic foods are rising sharply, which makes it impossible to buy even the most common raw materials, even if they are available, says in the challenge. According to the statement, the worsened situation is further enhanced by the increasing number of cases of cholera, which multiplies the most severe consequences of malnutrition. According to reports, malnutrition has claimed more than 60 lives over the past week.
“The conditions reminiscent of famine and terrible attacks persist in other areas of Sudan, especially in Cordophane … This is not how it can continue,” the signatories agreed.
UN call
Among other things, they called on all stakeholders to allow convoys with the help of the United Nations (UN) and the permanent presence of the UN throughout Sudan.
