Russian and American presidents will discuss this Friday in Alaska, the conflict in Ukraine and international security in a summit starting at 11:30 (20:30 in Lisbon), Kremlin announced.

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the Russian President Yuri Uchakov’s diplomatic counselor, quoted by the Russian and international news agencies, told reporters.

“The central theme will be the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis (…). But, of course, broader tasks to ensure peace and security, as well as current international and regional issues, will also be addressed,” said Ushakov.

After this announcement, the White House also confirmed that Trump intends to participate in the joint press conference, when journalists will be able to ask questions to both leaders.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that “this is the plan” when asked about the press conference, that Kremlin had previously announced. “So tomorrow, very early, he [Trump] From the White House to our joint military base in Anchorage, Alaska, where there will be a meeting alone with President Putin, who will be followed by a bilateral lunch with their delegations from both countries and then a press conference, ”Leavitt told Fox News this morning.

Leavitt also added that the meeting will be an opportunity for Trump to “sit face to face with Russian President, look at him in the eye and see that progress can be made to advance to this brutal war and restore peace.”
