It was an illegal fishing
United Kingdom Foreign Minister David Lammy went to fish last week with US Vice President Jd Vance in his refuge in the interior of England. Now it can be fined for it.
On Wednesday, Lammy presented himself before the United Kingdom Environmental Inspection Body for fishing unlicensed-a violation in Britain that can cost him a fine of 2,500 pounds, about 2,900 euros.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs wrote to the environmental agency about an administrative carelessness they had, for not having acquired the appropriate licenses to fish in a private lake during a diplomatic commitment at Cheveneing House last week,” said a Foreign Ministry spokesman.
“As soon as the Minister of Foreign Affairs has learned of this administrative error, he successfully acquired sugarcane fishing licenses,” added the spokesman.
“He also wrote to the environmental agency notifying them of the error, explaining how it would be corrected and thanking them for the work developed in the protection of British fishing.”
Lammy recently received JD Vance at Cheveneing House, his retreat in Kent County in the south of the country, known as the Garden of England. After diplomatic commitments, the US Vice President remained in British territory for a family vacation.
Although Trump’s number two criticized the British government so it claims to be a severe approach to freedom of expression, Vance and Lammy held a friendly press conference after their illegal fishing.
“Unfortunately, the only tension in our relationship is that all my children have fished, but the Foreign Minister not,” Vance told reporters.
The fish caught by the group were returned to private lake, according to British news agency PA Media.
People over 13 should have a fishing license to fish in sweet water in England and Wales, according to laws aimed at protecting fish stocks and making fishing a sustainable activity.
“Everyone who will fish need a license to help improve our rivers, our lakes and the sports that fishermen love,” said a spokesman for the environmental agency, according to PA. “We understand that relevant licenses were acquired.”
