A new EU prohibition is approaching that will affect you when you make the nail polish

As of September 1, this 2025 a new regulation of the European Union will enter into force that will restrict access to certain chemical substances used in cosmetic products. These substances have been recently reaped as carcinogenic or toxic, thus forcing them to add them to the list of prohibited compounds.

In the case of enamels, it is the TPO substance (the main hardener agent in gel) and that can be harmful to health. It is widely used as a photoiniciator because when it is exposed to Tayos UVA or LED lamps accelerates the curing and solidification of gel or enamel nails.

Given this situation, manufacturers are entrusted with different actions to prevent these substances from being in cosmetic products that can be found regularly. First, gel nail polish manufacturers are asked to immediately review the compositions of all their products and, if necessary, adjust the formulas to carry them out. In addition, it is entrusted that the elaboration of them be chosen.

Second, distributors must verify the composition of all enamels that make the market disposal and eliminate those who continue to have the substance because as of September first their commercialization will be considered illegal.

Finally, nail care suppliers are invited to review the tools and products available in their stores that have the TPO before the aforementioned date, even if they were purchased before, because thereafter no commercial movement with these products will be valid.
