Brazil has a New record of the highest wave ever surfed in the countryaccording to the BWB (Big Waves Brazil) project. Surfer Lucas Lead surfed a 14.82 meter wave at the Jagua Laje in Jaguaruna (SC) on July 30. Technical study and wave analysis were done by an oceanographer.
The giant wave was recorded during On the coast of Santa Catarina. According to Thiago Jacaré, creator of BWB and national coordinator of big wave surfing of the Brazilian Surfing Confederation (CBSurf), the previous record was also recorded in the Jagua Laje, 14 meters.
The place is known as Brazilian Nazareth. The title alludes to Vila Nazaré, in Portugal, famous for the giant waves. The jagua slab is a submarine rock formation that causes the waves to increase in size as they approach the coast.
According to alligator, with the passage of the extratropical cyclone and the forecast of giant waves disclosed by official bodies, such as Epagri/Ciram and Civil Defense, surfers Marco Polo and traveled to Santa Catarina.
“This cyclone entered with a magnitude of energy I had never seen,” says Jacaré.
At the scene, the surfers moved about 5 kilometers sea in search of the perfect swell. The term is used by surfers to call waves formed in distant storms that travel long distances until they reach a beach.
“It was a crazy mission, let’s say, with cyclone, winds and gigantic sea,” jokes Jacaré.
Oceanographer Douglas Nemes, PhD in Coastal Engineering and Wave Mechanics Specialist, attested, from analysis, the new record.
