A large part of the gardeners planted the onion in the spring, which is why its yields will collect in a moment. When the vegetables release the position, it is worth re -use for other plants. There are really many possibilities.
Beginner gardeners do not always know when you can collect. Well, we proceed when 70-80 percent the plants turn yellow and the chives break down. It is good if 3-4 green leaves remain on each specimen.
However, we cannot indicate the exact date of the collection. All this depends on weather conditions in the following days.
Let’s not wait too long with the collection. Otherwise, the chives will dry completely, and the onion is rooted again, which will significantly shorten its storage time.
How to properly collect onions? At the beginning, let’s dug all the vegetables and put them in the fresh air for about a week, so that they ventilate, unless it starts to rain. After this time, we move the heads cleaned of the ground to the chest, which we store in the basement.

Before we put new vegetables in the place of onions, you must first take care of the soil. First, we get rid of weeds and remains of plants, i.e. shells, tuber residues. Then we dig the ground to a depth of about 25 cm.
Sometimes it is worth calculating the earth. We do it when its pH is less than 6.0. It must be from 6.0 to 6.5. We control the ground reaction with a meter.
We also recommend the soil to the soil with compost or granulated manureto enrich it with nutrients. Finally, level the surface and break the remaining lumps.
Vegetations with a short vegetation period will be perfect for the onion. Here is the list:
- spinach;
- pea;
- sorrel;
- radish;
- parsley;
- carrot;
- cucumber;
- zucchini;
- patisony;
- lettuce;
- beetroot;
- Herbs, e.g. basil, coriander.
These vegetables planted in place after onions will be more resistant to fungal diseases. Thanks to them, the soil will become fertile, so we will collect abundant crops.
By growing onion, soil abounds in specific fungi and bacteria. There may also be pests, i.e. throws or aphids. So do not plant onions on the onion, because then the risk of diseases will be even greater.
In addition, it is not recommended to plant other vegetables from the garlic family, i.e. garlic, leek, chives. It is also better not to grow green beans and brassica vegetables, because they may not take it here.
Onions and other garlic vegetables can be grown after onions, but only after 4 years. Then the soil will regenerate, and the risk of diseases and pests will be smaller.
