Formal request, described in an order, indicates that the process is ready to be analyzed and that the appointment is crucial to proceed with the lawsuit of the alleged coup plot
The minister of the Federal Supreme Court () requested on Thursday (14) to the president of the first class, who schedule the trial of the former president and seven other defendants accused of involvement in the alleged attempted coup d’état of 2022. The formal request, described in an order, indicates that the process is ready to be analyzed and that the definition of the date is crucial to give progress to the lawsuit. Moraes, who is the rapporteur of the case, argued in the document that, after the closure of the instructional phase, the fulfillment of all due diligence and the presentation of the final allegations by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the defendants’ lawyers, the process is in a position to be guided. The trial is expected to start in September.
“Crucial core” will be the first to be judged
The PGR denounced Bolsonaro and seven other defendants for allegedly integrating a conspiracy to nullify the result of the 2022 presidential elections and prevent the inauguration of the president -elect. The denunciation details an articulation that would involve military, civilians and members of the previous government to promote acts, disseminate misinformation and seek the legitimation of unconstitutional measures. The group that will initially be tried is composed of Bolsonaro government names, nicknamed the “crucial core.” In addition to the former president, they are defendants:
Alexandre Ramagem, former director of ABIN;
Almir Garnier, former Navy Commander;
Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice;
Augusto Heleno, former GSI minister;
Mauro Cid, former Presidential Orders;
Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, former Minister of Defense;
Walter Braga Netto, former Minister of the Civil House.
The first class of the STF, responsible for the trial, is composed by the ministers Cristiano Zanin (president), Luiz Fux, Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio Dino and Cármen Lúcia.
