The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) said on Thursday (14) that he did not vote proposals that regulate social networks because they direct them algorithms against politicians.
“This is the great drama of social networks: are the algorithms. Why does the political world fear a lot to vote for legislation? Because social networks direct the algorithms. When it will consult that deputy only come bad news. What supports social networks without regulation only comes good news. The algorithms are directed,” he said.
According to the minister, the Supreme defined one in the face of the inaction of Congress. He said the court -defined thesis is “minimalist, but with some necessary restrictions.”
“Self -restart does not exist on social networks. It is no longer possible to allow challenges of adolescents, children and adolescents to self -stretch. This is no freedom of expression […] There is a need, in general, of greater liability, “he defended.
The statements were made by Moraes during a conversation with digital influencers at the STF headquarters in Brasilia. The meeting lasted 1 hour.
The Supreme invited 26 content creators for a two -day visit to the Supreme in the second edition of the project “Laws and Likes”. Among the influencers were Antonio Tabet, Deia Freitas, Fred Nicácio, Yuri Marçal and Mizael Silva – Humorist who identifies in networks as “Xandão’s lawyer”.
Digital influencers still had meetings with STF presidents, Luis Roberto Barroso, and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Carmen Lúcia.
The group moved the Supreme Headquarters. Mizael Silva walked through the court corridors recording videos as if he had his first meeting with the Moraes client. Content creators were encouraged to publish in real time the meetings and halls they visited.
The climate of relaxation allowed Moraes to make jokes with the influencers. On Wednesday (13), when finding his self-proclaimed lawyer, he asked if Mizael spoke English.
“I need a lawyer […] To defend myself in the United States, “said the minister, the target of financial sanction of Donald Trump government.
When the Supreme team suggested on Thursday that the minister took a photo with the creators of content, Moraes asked if the visitors were real interest to appear in an image with him.
“You have to see if they’ll want it. It’s a risk because you may have an American drone,” he joked.
De Moraes was questioned during the meeting over why part of the population has the impression that the Supreme has been speeding up for the former president’s trial as corruption scandals, such as the INSS frauds, do not seem to move forward.
The minister explained that the criminal action against Bolsonaro is in his final phase after about two years of investigation and process instruction. “The INSS issue is not six months old,” he said.
Moraes also detailed that each investigation and process has peculiarities that impact on its pace.
“There is no predilection here to one side or the other. It depends on the procedure, depends on the rapporteur, depends on the evidence. Sometimes the Attorney General’s Office denounces with a year of investigation; sometimes the Attorney’s Office reports with a month of investigation,” he added.
The minister also explained that he is not responsible for INSS -related investigations – all are in the office of Minister Dias Toffoli.
“I’m not the rapporteur of everything. I would even like to be, but I’m not,” said Moraes, in a joke.
