The US President also left a guarantee to European leaders
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that if the summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin would not go well, “would go away.”
“I think it will go very well and, if I don’t run, I will return home quickly,” Trump said in a short video of an interview that will be broadcast today at Fox News.
“If it doesn’t work out, are you leaving?” Asked Bret Baier, a journalist of the same channel. “I would go away, yes,” said Trump.
From Air Force One, where he was traveling to Alaska, a place that welcomes the meeting with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump also made known that he wants to see a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, adding that he will not be “satisfied” if this does not happen this Friday.
“If it’s a bad meeting, I’m not going to call anyone. I’m going home. But if it’s a good meeting, I will call President Zelensky and European leaders,” he said, adding that “nothing is defined” and does not know what would make the summit a success.
Hours earlier, and during the same trip, the US President said he would not hold the Alaska meeting to negotiate an agreement on behalf of Ukraine, and argued that his goal was to take Putin to the negotiating table.
