Ukraine ordered on Thursday new evacuations in an area of the Donetsk (East) region that includes the city of Druzjivka, after the rapid advance of the Russian army in recent days. “We have begun the mandatory evacuation of families with children in the city of Druzjivka” and several nearby towns, said the governor of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filchkin, and indicated that there are still 1,879 children in the area. The governor justified the measure for the intensity of bombings in the region and the danger they represent, without direct reference to Russian advance. The Russian army has progressed at an unusually rapid pace in this strategic sector of the eastern front. The advance occurs shortly before the expected summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, scheduled on Friday in Alaska. A map published by Deepstate, a website that follows the progress of the war, shows a narrow corridor now under Russian control and that could be a threat to the city of Dobropillia, northwest of Pokrovsk, epicenter of the fighting. The Russian forces on Tuesday achieved their greatest advance in 24 hours in Ukrainian territory for more than a year, according to an AFP analysis based on data from the US Institute for the study of war (ISW), which works alongside Critical Threats Project (CTP).
