Alckmin charges Congress agility to approve exporters relief package

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Geraldo Alckmin, said on Saturday (16) that the National Congress needs to act speeding up in the analysis of the 50% tariffs imposed by the United States.

In defending a rapid response from the legislature, the vice-president resorted to his experience as a constituent. “Why do we create the provisional measure? Because, in the modern state, changes are quick. Our time is the time of change. We need to act with agility,” he said. “I’m sure Congress will analyze and vote for the package quickly.”

• Specific credit lines;
• postponement of tax payment;
• Insurance for foreign sales.

Most actions are foreseen in a Provisional Measure (MP) already edited by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Despite being in force, the MP needs to be voted by Congress within 120 days. Some of the initiatives still depend on the executive regulation to start the real.

In addition to the MP, the package includes a complementary bill that deals with the granting of tax credit for export companies.

The measure will allow taxation of taxes, with an estimated fiscal impact of R $ 5 billion by the end of 2026, which will be out of the ceiling of the fiscal goals. As this is a bill, the proposal only comes into force after approval in the legislature.
