The Corinthians Deliberative Council announced on Saturday (16) that it will hold the election for president of the club on Monday, August 25. The election will elect a leader for a tax mandate until December 2026.
In a statement, the chairman of the board, Romeu Tuma Jr. informs that the club members who are lifetime counselors may apply or who have been elected counselors by the General Assembly at least twice, and that they are up to date with all statutory rights.
Corinthians is currently chaired interim by Osmar Stabile, since Augusto Melo was removed from office by the Council in May. On Saturday (9), the General Assembly of partners voted for the impeachment of Melo, defendant in the court of São Paulo on suspicion of criminal association, money laundering and theft in negotiating a sponsorship contract. Melo denies the accusations.
The elected counselor will command the club until the end of 2026, when the mandate of Melo would end.
The election will also serve to choose a new vice president of the Deliberative Council, in place of Roberson de Medeiros, who resigned to deal with personal matters, according to the statement.
In addition to Stabile, who assumed the interim presidency for being vice in the plate of Melo, Antonio Roque Citadini is another potential candidate for the vacancy. Given the uncertainties about the date of the vote so far, there was still a lot of uncertainty around the candidacies.
