On the morning of Friday, August 15, the Rio Branco City Council hosted a public hearing by Councilman Matheus Paiva, with the objective of discussing public policies aimed at people with fibromyalgia. The event was attended by civil society representatives, health specialists, members of patients and municipal authorities.
During the hearing, the parliamentarian presented two bills of great social impact. The first provides for the exemption of the registration fee in municipal public tenders for people with fibromyalgia. The second proposes the exemption of the payment of the municipal public transport tariff for patients with the disease.
In addition to the legislative proposals, Matheus Paiva announced the destination of parliamentary amendments to strengthen integrative and complementary health (PICs) practices, developed by the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa). These actions cover therapies such as acupuncture, auriculotherapy, herbal medicine and other practices recognized by SUS, which help in the treatment and relief of symptoms of fibromyalgia.
“Our goal is to ensure more dignity and quality of life for those who face the challenges of fibromyalgia daily, providing facilitated access to urban opportunities and mobility without financial overload. And with PICs, offer safe and affordable therapeutic alternatives, integrating care and well-being,” said Councilman Matheus Paiva.
The hearing resulted in a broad debate on the importance of inclusive policies and investments in integrative health, with referrals that reinforce the commitment of the Rio Branco City Council to promote effective measures to improve their lives.
