At the explosion in the factory in the Riazan region in the south of the European part of Russia, at least 11 people lost their lives. Dozens of others suffered injuries. Russian independent media reported that the explosion occurred in the gunpowder factory, AFP added.
The Russian Ministry of Extreme Situations on Social Network published photos of a damaged building and added that 130 people were injured in the explosion. 29 of them had to be hospitalized.
According to reports of independent media, the explosion occurred on Friday at the Elastik factory, which is located near the town of Lesnoj in the central part of the Riazan region and where gunpowder and ammunition is produced. In 2021, 17 people died in the explosion.
Authorities in the Riazan region declared Monday 18 August a day of mourning. “Flags will be launched half a pole throughout the region,” said governor Pavel Malkov in the post on the telegram platform.
In connection with the explosion, an investigation for suspicion of non -compliance with safety standards at work has also been initiated. AFP said that fatal accidents in industrial factories were not unusual in Russia.
